HUK COBURG SELECTS N.E.T. MULTISERVICE BACKBONE NETWORK FOR NATIONWIDE NETWORK IN GERMANY
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 9, 1997 - N.E.T. today announced that HUK Coburg Insurance, one of Germany's leading insurance providers, has selected an N.E.T.(tm) multiservice backbone network for integrated voice and data communications connecting offices in 40-plus cities throughout Germany. The N.E.T. multiservice network, valued at $2.5 million, was part of a contract awarded to Ericsson Germany.
The 40-plus node multiservice network, which includes IDNX(r) Models 90/20/Micro 20, consolidates voice and data traffic that is critical to HUK Coburg's business. The multiservice network complements Ericsson MD110 private branch exchanges (PBXs) to serve as the backbone for an automatic call distribution system that helps to route customer calls for quicker service. N.E.T. PrimeVoice(tm) modules combine leading voice compression and ISDN switching capabilities that create a more efficient network that saves the insurance company money. The multiservice network also features N.E.T. FrameXpress(tm) frame relay switching modules. The frame relay modules support large volumes of data traffic over the wide area by connecting to IBM cluster controllers and front-end processors and Cisco routers located in the HUK Coburg offices. "The IDNX backbone offered the best networking solution for our needs because it handles both voice and data traffic more efficiently and reliably than other solutions, and we expect to recover our investment in less than 16 months of service," said Mr. Uwe Matzner, telecommunications manager, HUK Coburg Insurance. "We can increase the amount of voice and data traffic without raising the cost to carry the traffic, while improving productivity and customer service. The enhancements to the network have made a marked improvement in customer response times."
N.E.T. PrimeVoice compression and ISDN switching capabilities provide transparent ISDN feature support such as faster call set-up and caller line identification between Ericsson MD110 private branch exchanges (PBX) and other PBX systems. In addition, PrimeVoice compression capabilities provide more efficient use of bandwidth, with toll-quality voice at 16Kb/s, enabling the network to handle a larger volume of calls without sacrificing quality. The N.E.T. multiservice network is currently being phased in with installation planned for completion by the end of 1997. Ericsson Germany is supporting the installation and maintenance of the network. N.E.T. provides 24 hour per day technical assistance as back-up.
The N.E.T. family of multiservice bandwidth managers consists of five models with sophisticated networking functions that combine efficient multiplexing, intelligent call-routing, LAN internetworking and routing, ATM, frame relay switching, ISDN signaling and network management.
