Tony, I really don't see the point here. Why can't the NVLS CEO comment on the business outlook of the chip industry? His industry is inextricably linked to theirs and anybody in that situation would closely monitor it. Just because the chipmaker's wont come out and tell you that business sucks doesn't mean that the Novellus CEO can't say it (if indeed that's the case).

That's an assumption that isn't backed by fact. Every CEO/CFO has his/her own agenda for telling you or not telling you things. In that kind of environment anybody who voices an opinion is helpful to you in determining for yourself what the facts might be. Case in point, INTC's recent optimism and the Dell CFO's comment that Dell is puzzled by Intel's optimism. That has got to be telling you something.
