Dan, that's quite a leap, don't you think? Why not buy Exxon because Nokia's handsets use plastic materials used from oil? I'd think it is more likely they were upgraded on a 2% bottom line projected gain because they increased net margin by stopping to buy expencive XLNX chips, having replaced them with cheaper custom logic chips in this more mature product cycle stage.

From XLNX Sept 97 "news" you refer to:

Now, weeks and months later, they already have cheaper and easier to use custom logic chips ready.
