Up until now the new economy thinkers like Lawrence Kudlow - and even Alan Greenspan himself - have said that this downturn has been different than any other in history because we have a new economy in which companies - through the use of computers - can readjust their inventories faster. But there is no argument that they can use to claim that job loss doesn't matter.
