SI Diamond Technology Announces the Successful Operation of a Carbon Nanotube
HyFED(TM) and the Official Kick-Off Meeting of the Phase II HyFED(TM)
Development Program

AUSTIN, Texas, May 4 /PRNewswire/ --
SI Diamond Technology, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SIDT) through its subsidiary,
Field Emission Picture Element Technology, Inc. (FEPET) today announced the
successful operation of the first four inch diagonal monochrome HyFED(TM)
utilizing a carbon nanotube cathode. The carbon nanotube deposition was done
utilizing FEPET's proprietary process (see press release dated June 8, 2000,
regarding FEPET's acquisition of basic carbon nanotube patents). This
process, which does not need high vacuum equipment, is a low cost process
conducive to large area deposition.
FEPET also announced that the kick-off meeting of the Phase II HyFED(TM)
International Development Program (IDP) will take place May 11, 2001 in
Shanghai, China. Shanghai Vacuum Electron Devices Company and Shanghai Novel
Color Picture Tube are hosting this kick-off meeting. Both companies are
among the largest CRT manufacturers in China.
The International Development Team is composed of 15 participants (members
and observers) from North America, Europe and Asia. Included on the team are:
Supertex (USA), Imaging System Technology (USA), VTM (Italy), Electrovac
(Austria), Lead Sangyo (Japan), SVEC (China) and Shanghai Novel (China).
FEPET's HyFED(TM)technology combines the best properties of CRT's and
field emission display (FED's) using FEPET's proprietary carbon nanotube
films. The HyFED(TM) display is designed to achieve a high-quality thin
display using the existing CRT manufacturing base. This display has the
potential to be larger, brighter, and to provide a higher resolution than
conventional CRTs, while remaining cost-competitive with the CRTs.
