Gap down open on higher than expected unemployment numbers.
The consensus number was surprising low to me as last months numbers did not reflect the layoffs announced later in the month by high techs. I would have expected a higher consensus number given the number of workforce reductions by the tech companies. We saw that increase during earnings season, so why the surprise reaction by the analysts. The COMPX is reflecting a more moderate view than what is being portrayed in the press. COMPX counter rallying now.

American Workers: You Are The Weakest Links, Goodbye

The market is poised to end the week on a down note after the highly anticipated April jobs report released this morning showed a sharp rise in the unemployment rate. Investors were expecting a slightly weaker result and many believed it was factored in with yesterday's pullback. However, the data was much more bearish than anyone expected, renewing concerns that the economy is still in a recession and that the recovery will not be as rapid as was being predicted.
