1) Report: 40-Gig Forecast

When the telecom industry took the last big leap in telecom transmission
speeds, Nortel charged ahead with 10-Gbit/s developments while Lucent
hung back, arguing telecom operators didn't need it.

As we all now know, Nortel was right and Lucent was wrong -- and that
ended up costing Lucent its leadership of the optical networking market.

Now, we're at a similar moment in time. Telecom operators are getting
comfortable with deploying OC192 (10 Gbit/s) technology while vendors
are racing ahead developing the components and systems that will bump
everything up another notch in speed, to OC768 (40 Gbit/s) speeds.
