Hank: Re: Yahoo

I've always discounted the Yahoo thread(s), primarily because of the quality of posts (or, more appropriately stated, the "lack of quality"). It seems that there are a bunch of posters who have a ton of negative stuff to say, and they harangue the posters who actually might have some decent info. I just don't have the patience to weed through all those thorns to find the gems.

Here on the SI thread, there are some intelligent folks who chat both on and off topic, but very few who attack others. There's a camaraderie here you don't find in other chat boards. Even our buddy Shege doesn't get into personal attacks, other than some occasional cynical exchanges that I write off as "I told you so" comments. Every thread has to have a naysayer or two to keep a touch of reality in the discussion. It's when those naysayers have absolutely nothing to say other than personal attacks on other posters that I lose interest in what they have to say.

Sensible discussion of issues is valuable. If not valuable for the company, at least they're valuable for the other posters and lurkers on the thread to help them experience another viewpoint, or to validate their own feelings. There's a ton of valuable experience out here in poster land. Those who are willing to share their knowledge and wisdom deserve some credit.

I've always considered SI to be the "class act" of the chat boards. Too bad it's come way down from its original popularity. I still consider it a good source of amicable discussion.
