Barnes update, It's been two weeks since I last posted to this thread, and no one has even put in 1 post, I'm surprised. After a week of softness and probably some profit-taking, Barnes steadied at around the 25 3/4 level last Mon (6/9). The stock is sluggishly awaiting the release of earnings on 7/16 and the company should report 2Q EPS of around $0.50 vs $0.43 a year earlier. The company still appears to be on track to earn $1.95-$2.00 for the F.Y. ending 12/31.
It appears that some market money is being pulled from the techs and placed into more conservative vehicles, paper, banks, and more basic industry types. Some of this could be quarter ending window dressing for the funds, and some may be the swapping of high multiple issues, (techs, disk drive manufacturers, networkers, etc.) for lower P/E stocks.
BTW - Ralph Accampora upgraded his estimate of the Dow for 1997 on CNBC this morning from a high of 8250 to 8750 before the end of 1997. I've meet Ralph many years ago and he is a pretty sharp guy who knows his stuff. - We'll see
