That wasn't what Rambus was originally about. It was originally about having RDRAM dominate the entire industry and collecting royalties on the technology. It was only recently (relative to when Intel signed on with Rambus about five years ago) that Rambus tried collecting royalties on SDRAM and DDR by using "patents on the most basic of logic or circuit design techniques." By that time, Intel had already shifted to its "memory-agnostic" policy.

So with one sweeping rationalization, you absolve Intel of any participation in this fiasco. The fact is that Intel tried to block a cost competitive approach (DDR) to promote its own self interest (Rambus) and FAILED. Up to now, I thought only IBM was capable of multi billion dollar blunders. So, you would think that Intel management would learn its lesson. I sincerely doubt it. Looks to me they are setting up a similar scenario with 3GIO. Typical Intel management stance. Self serving...arrogant.... but dumb.
