do you have any skinny for us on vargas' opponent tomorrow night, wilfredo rivera ? i see he has a 32-4-1, 20 KO's record, and i read that he is a former champ. beyond that, i don't remember anything about the guy.

i like the way you gave trinidad his just due, btw. as a vargas fan it must have been hard to watch tito drop him 5 times. i'm not spreading salt in the wound here, btw. but as a long-time trinidad fan, that victory over vargas was sensational to see.

your comments about some fighters never being the same after a devastating loss are right on as well. we will all watch with great interest to see whether vargas has been impacted by the trinidad loss.

i made my opinion known on the subject when i posted right after mayweather beat corrales....

"yeah, this first loss looks like it's really going to take its toll on corrales. and the similarity continues there with vargas. i've already said that i don't think vargas will go on to be the force that many think he will be. i've always felt vargas was overrated. his best fights are behind him. truth be told, at the moment, corrales' future looks a bit shaky too. that's how thoroughly he was dominated tonight."

the similarities between vargas and corrales that i alluded to in the above excerpt were that each fighter was knocked down 5 times by his opponent after never having previously been off their feet, and, unfortunately, the whining that each fighter engaged in after his loss. corrales blamed his father-in-law for stopping the fight early (yeah, right) and we've all heard vargas' whining about trinidad hitting low.

anyway, i didn't mean this post to be a rant against vargas (though that's hard to resist, for me). i meant it as an acknowledgement of knowing what it's like when your guy gets whacked.

imagine how i felt when i picked andrew which-way-is-the-exit golota to prevail over mike tyson! <g3>

"I'll be rooting for Vargas bigtime tomorrow night."

and i'll be rooting for rivera.

:)
