Some strategies you may want to try:

(1) SNET one of the MM's on the ask (preferably the one who seems to be consistently on the ask, since that MM may be trying to build a short position and will be more likely to sell you the shares)

(2) Pick heavily traded securities, since INCA or ISLD will tend to be on the ask much more often and can be easily hit (as is true with most other ECN's).

(3) Time your entry point: enter during brief pullbacks in a strong uptrend. When pullbacks occur, you'll generally be able to enter a trade on the bid or below because of brief panic selling. This is a more risky strategy, but will all but guarantee you an entry.

(4) In a strong uptrend, there's nothing wrong with sacrificing a few pennies and hitting an ECN offering 1-3 pennies about the spread. Remember that in the "good old days", the 1/16 spread amounted to about a 0.06 slippage, so the effective 0.02-0.04 slippage this strategy entails is still a good deal.

Hope this helps.
