You are being ripped off if you are paying margin interest on an in house borrow. I would close an account with a brokerage that did that in a heartbeat.

I still haven't seen any evidence that shorting would be unavailable to pattern daytraders who fall below 25k of account equity. I'm inclined to think that you folks are jumping to conclusions.
