Jerome-- In addition to the issues you brought up, the UN, in a vote that indicated contempt for Bush, elected Sudan and other nations in the Human Rights Commission and excluded the US. This, to me, is a statement of their contempt for his high-handed view of the missle defense treaty. In my mind, the human contract is the basis of law. If people are not bound by contracts, everything else falls apart. Dubya is prepared to violate this for the anti-ballistic bullshit.
However, I think our energy policy screws the poor by bringing higher fuel prices. Your kids from the inner city will not go to Alaska. In addition, and I don't want to open another can of worms, I am contemptuous of many, not all, environmental regulations. For example, I reviewed every study on DDT until about 1990 and found that DDT probably INHIBITS cancer. E.g, The workers the factory of Montrose Chemical, the manufacturer of DDT had high fat levels, but no cases of cancer. Because of the the sky-is-falling environmentalist, a cheap long-lasting safe insecticide is being replaced by expensive dangerous ones. We have Lyme disease in the East which can easily be eradicated by DDT.
Also, why isn't there a discussion of global COOLING. Ony 10,000 yrs ago, nothing in geologic time, NYC and the Northern US was covered in ice. 50,000 years ago NYC was covered in 1000 ft of ice! We are in a receding ice age and I'm glad it is receding!
Sorry for being on my high-horse again.
