What if the analysts are right? Why can't you accept that possibility? Companies like UIS are already going public with guidance that their 4th quarter will be much-much stronger. the IT spending report yesterday confirmed the same. So you're saying those experts are definitely wrong?

Think of the effect of much lower rates and a tax cut as well. The only risks I see are the market getting ahead of itself (in which case longs will make money on the way) and/or the energy crisis is worse than we think. But with inventories burning off and cheap borrowing available for cap expenditures I find it hard to believe there won't be a nice recovery by the 4th quarter at the latest.

Then again, who knows? No one can predict and if they're right it's just an educated guess or lucky. Besides, all we care about now is next week and the week after. The Fed cut is the major event now the amrket is being driven by, and the consensus is a .50 cut. Fuel on the fire.
