JNPR and SONS alliance......
Hi, I don't mean to barge in on your thread, but I am trying to vet a situation for fiber networks. I do not invest the fiber gear manufacturers. I follow GX closely, and the same day as the JNPR//SONS alliance was announced, GX announced they were buying the 1200 series of routers from CSCO. biz.yahoo.com
This would not seem important, but heretofore GX has used JNPR gear. Their rationale for choosing CSCO was due to a single item of functionality (so they say), and this is "guaranteed high priority packet delivery" available on CSCO product, but not available from any other vendor.
Can someone here direct me to information WRT the JNPR products which might compete with the CSCO products? I have been all over the various homepages for the software plays (Packeteer et.al.) and SONS and JNPR, and nowhere can I find anyone *guraranteeing* the delivery of high priority packets, except CSCO. I feel the JNPR//SONS announcement was in response to the GX//CSCO deal, and I would like very much to follow this to completion. With all of the pressure on the gear makers due to lowered telecom capex, I expect only the high margin network offerings will be receiving substantial capex, and this would be the areas of VoIP, Video, etc, all involving the need for guaranteed delivery of the high priority packets over any IP system.
This would suggest this area will be the focus of the gear makers.
Any help would be appreciated.
