Paul, Had AthWiper been micro-architected properly, it would have run at quite a bit higher clock speed than it does. One of the main reasons that I like Athlon is that it appears that have an extremely well balanced pipeline. This is evident by the fact that they achieved 1.4 GHz in a ten stage pipe. They also made very good choices wrt cache size and latency. Evidence of a very strong top down design methodology, that was obviously lacking on P4. As I told you last March on the golf course patio, I like the P4 deep pipeline approach very much, but as it turned out the implementation details were poor. Scumbria
