The Consolidation Breakout pattern is one a common setup we use to enter trades. When found on the daily charts, it will often setup nice swingtrading (1 to 3 day) type trades. When found intraday the setups are often momentum based scalps with tight stops and generally short holding times. This setup occurs when, over the course of several price bars a stock trades in a sideways range and is unable to break overhead resistance. Once this resistance is broken, strong momentum moves can occur offering traders opportunities to profit from the rushing in of the crowd.
