I have read a lot, but count me as one who has never read Ayn Rand or J. D. Salinger. I have read so many analysis of these books that reading the actual material has lost it's appeal. But that is also my point. These are not athiest authors, they are authors who may be atheist. For a great atheist author I suggest Stephen W. Hawking's "A Brief History of Time". They key to knowing it is an athiest work is that God or magical concepts are not mentioned or considered, they play no part in the book.
