Granted that Republicans like to talk about a balanced budget, but the record of Ford, Reagan and Bush were dismal.

Clinton was the first President to back his talk with action, and actually get the budget balanced.

Without Clinton, neither the Republicans nor the Dems were capable of balancing the budget. Republicans go for military spending increases and tax cuts, and Dems go for social spending increases.

Clinton got the job done, and Bush is likely to sabotage it with traditional Republican fiscal insanity.
