My firing from the lip response is that it is not that simple.

First: We, the thread, want "inside information". We want the best information we can get.

Second: It is not so clear that someone who is not an insider is violating the (securities) law 10b5 by disseminating the info, at the very least, the crime is for that same person, who IS an insider, to TRADE on it.

What confuses the issue here was the Heard on the Street court extending the doctrine to find guilt. This was a big extension of the law, which may or may not be warranted or eventually, followed.
