Monica,

Left wing movements always are based on the premise that the other side is destroying the society, and that any action necessary to destroy the opponent is justified.

This starts with rude discourse, where the target of anger is addressed or spoken of in terms of reproach. Eventually it leads to behavior like:

1. Stalin (He was a Communist, right? Communism isn't left wing? Is socialism not left wing?)
2. Mao
3. Pol Pot
4. The Gulag
5. The 30's show trials
6. The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution
7. Hungary 1956
8. Poland
9. East Germany 1953
10. Czechoslovakia
11. Afghanistan (remember the Soviet invasion and occupation? An attempt to set up a left wing regime.)

The basic premise is always the same. "If we don't eliminate the (capitalists, jews, conservatives, etc...) they will destroy our society."

This attitude is used to justify the sort of unacceptable level of dialogue which dominates this thread and much of the left-wing movement.

5. Spanish Inquistion <== THAT was RELIGION, buddy!
6. Afghanistan <== and THAT was RELIGION, buddy! The civil war and Soviet expulsion, that is. And Taliban.
7. Iran <== and THAT was RELIGION, buddy!
8. Pontius Pilate <== and that was religion or imperialism. But not Republican. Or Libertarian.
