G* would have a strategic impact for many of QCOM's ventures. Most ipmortantly, it could have a profound impact for OmniTracs, WingCast, fixed WLL CDMA2000, Digital Cinema, gpsOne, etc... Since the market for wireless data is being completely ignored due to the lack of 1X infrastructure and handsets, it is a great time to buy depressed assets that will play a central role for 3G CDMA in the future.

The applications for zero tolerant default gps systems for wireless operators will gain increasing visibility as E 911 mandates become recognized by the market. (I am getting billed for wireless E911 by PCS already.) You cannot mandate child safety seats in cars without mandating telematic safety equipment that provides near perfect gps location. The word mandate is clear in this respect. Consumer choices or preferences will not pave the way for greater safety regulations - it will be driven by government demands for better response times to transportation accidents involving cars, airplanes, trucks, ships, etc... The idea that planes are only tracked by radar and not gps wireless connections is a complete joke in todays society.

If QCOM could gain majority interest in G* for $250 million given the universal spectrum, it would be an incredible way for QCOM to leverage it's products.
