Yeah, Mao liked them a lot, as I understand it. There was a piece in The New York Review of Books a few years ago that was very revealing of the way Mao degenerated as a tyrant into a self- indulgent, sententious fool, practically convinced of his own infallibility. During the Great Leap Forward, he would not hear of releasing grain reserves to relieve starvation, because that would be an admission that he was mistaken, and because he became bitter at being let down. Millions died, mainly to preserve his pride and a small propaganda advantage..........
