Pulse Unveils Industry's First Flat-Top, Self-Leaded, Fixed-Clip Power Inductor Design biz.yahoo.com SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 2001--Pulse announces a new surface mount (SMT) flat-coil power inductor for high-current applications used in DC/DC converters for high-speed desktop computers, notebook computers, servers, and power supply modules.
The power inductor provides a low profile (6mm or 0.236-inch max.) compact and robust design for easy SMT mounting. The power inductor has a newly designed base with lock-in metal clips and a mini-coat on the spring coil to enhance the robustness of the inductor.
The market demand for these SMT inductors is increasing as the new high-speed processors are incorporated into a myriad of computer-based products. The new processors run at higher frequencies with lower voltages (between 1 and 3.8 volts DC) and much higher current levels than previously used. The voltages must be stepped down from either the 36 or 48 volt bus in a desktop PC or main server, or from the 6 or 12 volt DC level of the portable device battery.
Pulse offers the industry's only flat-top, self-leaded design with a fixed clip, ideal for easy pick-and-place applications and higher current ratings. They are magnetically shielded for reduced electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Technical Information
Packaged, the series is available in six inductance values PG0006.102T, PG0006.212T, PG0006.312T, PG0006.422T, PG0006.462T, and PG0006.522T, 0.90 to 4.95uH with DC resistance values from 1.75 to 12.40 milliohms (m(OMEGA)) TYP.
The power inductor also provides a high current application up to 20ADC (lsat). Operating temperatures are 0(degree)C to 100(degree)C. Details are available on data sheet P540.P, located on Pulse's Web site at pulseeng.com.
Pricing and Availability
This SMT power inductor is available in tape-and-reel packaging, 340 units per reel. Priced at $0.45 for volumes over 1 million pieces per year or $0.65 for volumes greater than two hundred thousand per year. Various volume discounts are offered.
