from pg3 of the article you reference:

slac.stanford.edu

Under Acknowledgements:

"John Moussouris, a founder of MIPS Computers, has provided critial insights into the directions we needto take in order to rendezvous with the future technology, has helped put us in with appropriate experts, and has helped expose problems and errors in our various prototype geanken models."

I am including a exerpt from Mike Farmwald's job history to key you in on who may have been responsible at MIPS for some of these ideas in SCI.

benchmark.com

"Prior to his success at Rambus, Mike founded FTL in 1986. FTL, an ECL supercomputing company, merged with MIPS in the same year. At MIPS, Mike served as Chief Scientist for High End Systems. Following his experience at MIPS, Mike was an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois."
