Albert,

I have no idea what he (Rothdeutsch, Eric at Robertson Stephens) is talking about. The CPU communicates with northbridge, not the memory, so the communication between Northbridge and CPU does not need to change, and it is unlikely that it will change. There were no reports of that.

It may be possible that the 478 pin package wil allow 133 MHz (x4) FSB), and this would allow synchronous communication with PC-133 SDR (but not x4). Otherwise, Intel would need to use PC-100 or asynchronous approach.

I believe there were news that the Brookdale will be in both 423 and 478 pin implementation blowing another hole in the analyst's theory.

Another thing is that the 478 pin package will probably be smaller than the 423 pin one, since Intel is introducing some new technlogy in this area, some kind of micro pins. It may be true that it will be more expensive (initially) though.
