Hi Karen. If you scroll down to the affirmation and denial section of the document, you will find this; ceug.org 4. We affirm that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation, the only mediator between God and humanity (John 14:6; 1 Tim. 2:5).
We deny that anyone is saved in any other way than by Jesus Christ and his Gospel. The Bible offers no hope that sincere worshipers of other religions will be saved without personal faith in Jesus Christ.
I would agree with that, but would also add that if any person responds to the light God has given them, then God will send them more. The problem comes from the fact that fallen humans run from, rather than to God. The incredible thing to me is that God is disposed to rescue any of us at all. BTW Since it is God who takes the initiative in salvation there is no room for bragging on the part of those who are the recipients of His mercy, as opposed to all the rest who receive His justice. The person who has never heard the name of Jesus, or received the ten commandments is nonetheless responsible for their individual actions. Their responsibility and therefore their punishment will not be as great as those who have heard the truth and rejected it. But they are still without excuse, having access to the Law of God written in their hearts, and the knowledge of a creator God as evidenced in the created order of the universe.
Hope that answers your question. Also notice that no membership to any particular "church" is mentioned, either by me, or in the document. Salvation is by the grace of God alone, through faith in Jesus Christ alone. This is what God has revealed to all people through His word, the Bible.
