European politics of the 20th century spanned the full spectrum of left to right, while American politics spanned the spectrum from center to right.

Correct! We failed to protect many of our domestic industries years ago. Astute capital went overseas, while labor went to work at some minimum wage, no benefit service job.

If accepting labor and environmental conditions raises wages from $1 to $5 a day, American multi-national business gains while American labor loses.
