BAN finds bedrock responsible for 9000+ diamonds recovered on Area E

Band-Ore Resources Ltd. - Bedrock Source Found on GQ Property
BURLINGTON, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8th, 2001--(TSE:BAN. - news) The Company reports it has successfully located the ``bedrock source'' of the diamondiferous `Area E' boulders where more than 9000 diamonds have been recovered from only 249.6 kilograms of processed material.
Recent geological mapping, prospecting and mechanical stripping has located the coarse-grained diatreme breccia in bedrock within 5 metres of the frost heaved boulder material.

Trenching has established the presence of a xenolith rich diatreme breccia across a continuous outcrop exposure of 75 metres in proximity to samples collected by independent diamond consultant, Dr. Ed Walker. A second trench located approximately 100 metres northwest of trench No. 1 has uncovered the diatreme breccia across a minimum width of 85 metres. Scattered outcrop and angular frost heaved boulder material indicate the `Area E' diatreme breccia has a minimum strike length of 300 metres and horizontal widths in excess of 75 metres. The zone strikes northwesterly and has a shallow dip to the northeast. The overburden in the area is generally less than 2 metres thick.

Based on the favourable diamond results received to date and the dimensions of the `Area E' diatreme breccia, the Company has decided to proceed with the extraction and processing of a 10 tonne mini-bulk sample. This sample will be processed for macrodiamonds only, at the independent diamond laboratory of Saskatchewan Research Council in Saskatoon.

To date the Company has recovered 141 macrodiamonds and 9094 microdiamonds from 249.6 kilograms of diatreme material in `Area E'. A 20.1 kilogram sample collected by Dr. Ed Walker in March 200, contained 30 macrodiamonds and 1751 micodiamonds. The largest macrodiamond recovered from `Area E' measured 1.94mm x 1.54 x 1.16mm.

The 100% owned, 25 square kilometre property is located just east of Highway 17, roughly 20 kilometres north of the mining community of Wawa, Ontario. The Company also has a 100% in an additional 125 square kilometres in the area.
