I would have to go with the Protestant bible since the Catholic church only added the apocryphal books post Trent, and they were not accepted by the Jewish community as canonical. As far as translations go although you are correct that they are just that. There is far less dispute about those translations than you are implying. The reformers believed correctly in the perspicuity of the Bible. That is to say the main things are the plain things and the plain things are the main things. Do you have a particular instance that gives you difficulty, or are you just using that as an excuse?
