mPhase Technologies to Participate in Live Videoconference Of Symposium on High-Speed Platforms
Chief Technology Officer to Give Presentation on Delivery of Television-Over- DSL Utilizing the Traverser Digital Video and Data Delivery System
NORWALK, Conn., May 8, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- mPhase Technologies (OTC Bulletin Board: XDSL chart, msgs), the leading designer of broadcast digital television and high-speed data solutions for the telecommunications industry, announced that it will participate in a live videoconference and virtual symposium entitled "High-Speed Platforms: A Reality Check," via the World Wide Web, on Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at 2PM (EDT). The broadcast, which is sponsored by the University of Maine Computer Science Department, will bring together experts in a variety of disciplines to discuss the various approaches businesses and academia are taking to maximize the delivery of communications services.

mPhase's Chief Technology Officer David Klimek will discuss the recently issued patents that cover the technology that makes possible the delivery of digital video content, bi-directional data services such as Internet access and Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) over a communications channel, typically copper wire utilizing Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service. The patented technology enables the Traverser Digital Video and Data Delivery System (DVDDS) to deliver television signals in their native MPEG-2 format utilizing a NIP (Non Internet Protocol) -based medium, thus avoiding concerns over packet retransmission and quality issues.

Other participants in the conference will include representatives from the University of California at San Diego, the University of Washington, the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, IBM (NYSE: IBM chart, msgs), and Lockheed-Martin (NYSE: LMT chart, msgs), among others.

mPhase will be the primary representation for stating the case for delivering a complete suite of services including digital television, high-speed Internet, data and voice, simultaneously over DSL; other participants will focus on the roles of a variety of technologies, such as wireless, cable broadband, Internet protocol (IP) and satellite in satisfying the needs of business and home-based customers. The presentations will be streamed from the University of Maine via the Internet at media.unet.maine.edu:8080/ramgen/encoder/I2-may9.rm and via a "virtual room" at the Access Grid at www.accessgrid.org.

"We are honored to have been afforded the opportunity to contribute to this discussion of high-speed platforms with these distinguished participants," said mPhase President and CEO Ronald Durando. "The new millennium is seeing a revolution in the way people communicate and how they receive information. mPhase and Georgia Tech are proud to be leading purveyors of the most cost-effective and reliable system for delivering a suite of digital video, high-speed Internet and voice services." He concluded, "we look forward to sharing information on the patents that drive our proprietary delivery system, thus adding what we think is an important facet of the industry's evolution, to the dialogue."
