Oh really! The Indonesians are going to investigate Canada for corruption. Maybe they should have paid a little more attention to some of the Filipino geologists before they left Indonesia.

Indonesia Bre-X probe eyes Canada

By MICHAEL PLATT
Calgary Sun
Calgary -- Indonesian military personnel may visit Calgary in a search for clues to the Bre-X
Minerals Ltd. salting scandal, says a top Indonesian investigator.
The RCMP will meet next week with officers from the Indonesian military -- which doubles as that
nation's police force -- to organize a fact-finding trip to Canada over the Busang fraud, said
Brig.-Gen. Ahwil Luthan yesterday
"We would like to continue our investigation in Canada, and we will decide how this will happen
during our meeting," said Luthan, who is leading Indonesia's probe into the death of Bre-X
geologist Michael de Guzman.
De Guzman died March 19 in an apparent suicide leap from a helicopter near Busang on the island
of Borneo, site of Calgary-based Bre-X's fraudulent gold find.
Luthan said he will be present when an RCMP liaison officer arrives in Jakarta for the meeting, but
would not discuss details of his investigation.
"We are still moving along, and we hope to share information with the RCMP when we get
together -- it should be next week," he said.
The Indonesian military has taken a keen interest in the Busang scandal, in which Bre-X's
70-million-ounce "find of the century" was exposed as one of the greatest gold-tampering
operations in history.
After reopening their investigation into the death of de Guzman -- the geologist's family insist he
was murdered -- the Indonesian military seized Bre-X property and sealed Busang to any further
exploration.
A Calgary RCMP official said he was unaware of the Indonesians' plans to visit the city, but
added that any such request would have to go through the Mounties' Singapore representative.
"We haven't heard anything like that -- we'll have to wait till we hear something from our liaison
officer," said Staff Sgt. Don Vander Graaf.
The RCMP are also conducting an investigation into the Bre-X affair, but Vander Graaf said the
Mounties aren't at liberty to reveal any new findings at this time.
