I have been surprised at the lack of reaction to the PostScript announcement, which seemed like a big deal to me.

Maybe others can help me figure this out by answering the following questions.

First, from the press release announcing the agreement: "As part of this corporate-wide strategic technology agreement, Wind River's award-winning Tornado(TM) development environment with its VxWorks(R) real-time operating system (RTOS) will become the standard platform for all Adobe PostScript-based printers and other embedded systems."

What do they mean by "standard platform"? Will all PostScript printers be covered by this agreement? Adobe owns PostScript, but doesn't manufacture printers, so how much control do they have over the RTOS used by the manufacturers? I have a PostScript printer manufactured by HP. Will HP PostScript printers built in the future come with VxWorks? Does anyone know how many PostScript printers are sold annually? Seems like there must be quite a few.

The statement from the press release that is noted above, taken together with the following comment from vp of marketing Larrimore, seems to suggest that Adobe will use VxWorks and Tornado for all of it's embedded systems needs:

"We are extremely pleased that they have selected Wind River's software as a strategic element for all of Adobe's embedded and printing system platforms."

Any idea what other uses Adobe may have for VxWorks, and what this may mean for WIND?
