I assume that by "evolution" you mean "evolution as an ultimate origin of the present species on earth". I suppose that if you squint your mind hard enough and continually remind yourself about the ultimate limits and fallibility of human knowledge, then this becomes a feasible viewpoint.

But, if by "evolution" you mean a process that directs variation within species and causes change from one species to another, then I would object that this is observable fact. Speciation has been observed both in nature and in the laboratory. We have yet to observe firsthand a case of Divine Intervention (unless you count the OJ Simpson trial).

Extrapolating the observable process of evolution backwards in time to attempt a description of the origins of the species we have today is hardly a religion. Naturally, the further back we extrapolate, the less sure we can be of the accuracy of claims. But using this uncertainty to replace a verified/observed process with an Imaginary Agent cannot be considered reasonable.
