Re: Takeovers

MSFT won't make any moves until it gets the DoJ off its back. My guess is that if the Court of Appeals rules in their favor (ruling expected within the next 30 days or so) and the DoJ backs off and settles the case this Summer then I'd expect MSFT to start getting aggressive on the acquisition front by the Fall. That $30 billion in cash on their books is going to be used for something other than just collecting interest. I don't know if WIND would be the first company they'd want to buy but I'm sure it would be on a short list somewhere. WIND's recent BSD deal makes them less attractive to MSFT though.

A buy by INTC, SI, etc. would face the problem that other WIND customers would not appreciate buying key software from a direct competitor. My best guess is that WIND stays independent for some time, which I'm sure is what WIND management would want as well.
