Coeur Reports Increased Silver Production and Lower
Cash Costs for the First Quarter of 2001

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2001--Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp.
(NYSE:CDE - news) reported a net loss of $8.1 million or $0.22 per share in the first quarter of 2001 compared to a net loss
attributable to common shareholders of $12.0 million or $0.39 per share in the first quarter of 2000.

First Quarter Highlights

-- Produced 2.63 million ounces of silver at a cash cost of
$4.02 per silver equivalent ounce compared to 2.60 million
ounces of silver in the first quarter of 2000 at a cash
cost of $4.65 per silver equivalent ounce.

-- Increased silver production at Coeur Silver Valley by 40%,
as compared to the first quarter of 2000, and reduced cash
costs by 25% to $4.36 per ounce.

-- Produced 26,700 ounces of gold compared to production of
32,200 ounces of gold in the first quarter of 2000.

-- Commenced the implementation of trackless underground
mining in selected areas of the Galena mine at Coeur
Silver Valley.

-- Carried out additional optimization studies at the San
Bartolome silver project in Bolivia.

-- Settled the Company's only outstanding lawsuit relating to
its limited share of the cleanup of the Coeur d'Alene
Basin.

-- Completed the sale of the Company's 50% interest in
Gasgoyne Gold Mines NL for $15.6 million in cash.

-- Exchanged $5 million principal amount of the Company's 7
1/4% convertible subordinated debentures due in 2005 for
1,787,500 common
