Socket's Plug-in Cards Selected by Microsoft for ``Ultimate Wireless Kit''

CompactFlash Ethernet and Bluetooth cards for Pocket PCs make prestigious prize list in Microsoft's 11-city Mobile Experience Tour

NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2001-- Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT, PSE: SOK) today announced that the company's Ethernet and Bluetooth CompactFlash plug-in cards for Pocket PCs have been selected for inclusion in the ``Ultimate Wireless Kit,'' a collection of mobile connectivity products offered by Microsoft Corp. in a sweepstakes to promote Microsoft's 11-city Mobile Experience Tour. As a sponsor, Socket is participating in the tour and giving live demonstrations of Socket's Battery Friendly® plug-in cards for Pocket PCs.

Socket's Low-Power Ethernet Card is the top-selling local area network card for Pocket PCs, offering users a fast way to synchronize their Pocket PCs with a desktop companion from anywhere on an office network. The Socket Bluetooth Card, scheduled for delivery in Q3, offers a cordless connection between a Pocket PC and a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone for wireless email, web browsing and remote network access. Socket's Bluetooth Card was recently nominated for the Best Bluetooth Consumer Product award by the 2001 Bluetooth Congress.

The Mobile Experience Tour, centered around a 45-foot rolling Mobile Theater equipped with the latest server, wireless, and device technologies, will cover 11 major US cities in as many weeks. The tour features a series of executive briefings and workshops, plus hands-on events for mobile professionals and consumers, all designed to show people how to use Pocket PCs and other mobile devices and wireless technologies to access their data and improve personal productivity. Anyone who registers for a tour event or visits Microsoft's Mobile Experience Tour web site and fills out an on-line entry form qualifies to win an ``Ultimate Wireless Kit.'' For more information about the tour and the Ultimate Wireless Kit Sweepstakes, visit Microsoft's web site at www.pocketpc.com.

``We're excited that Microsoft has selected two of our CompactFlash products as part of their Ultimate Wireless Kit,'' said Peter Phillips, director of product marketing for Socket. ``The inclusion of our products in the Ultimate Wireless Kit Sweepstakes is not only an honor but also gives Socket great exposure in this grass-roots tour of the top consumer markets in the US.''

``We are delighted to hit the road with Socket and other associates to show people how easy it is to turn a Pocket PC into a powerful wireless business solution,'' said Derek Brown, product manager for the Mobile Devices Division of Microsoft.
