re: people earn in the private sector by supplying society with something it wants Well......that's one of the ways people in the private sector make money. Lots of not-so-noble methods also. One of my favorite quotes, is from an executive at ADM (I forget exactly who, but I think it was one of the ones who was indicted for price-fixing), who said: "Our job is to stand between buyers and sellers, and screw them both". I remember that quote, every time I hear one of those FeelGood ADM ads ("we love Mother Nature and ending Third World hunger, that's why we're in business").
