Just for my cyber-bud Ish, I decided to answer this question. 8. Of course, the actual driving is done by the most junior members of the boat. The point is, I know what I'm talking about. And I certainly know far more than some cyber reporter from an online magazine which is about to go bankrupt.

The horrible Greenville incident was an *accident*. If the Greenville skipper tried hitting a fishing boat during an emergency blow from 400 feet, he might have been able to do it 1 out of 100 tries. A serious of events took place which led to the disaster. I like to describe it as an electrical schematic drawing (something I'm sure you can relate to), each separate switch wasn't deadly in and of itself, but taken together, the circuit was complete, and disaster struck.

Driving and operating a large submarine is dangerous business. So is driving a car, or driving a plane. Accidents happen, and we often look for malice where none existed. The captain of the Greenville was a good person. He was ultimately responsible, and did take responsibility.
