One company=one supplier=captive audience=communism! Is that what you
want...to have your computer cost so much that only the proletariat can
afford it. Check out the history of the "robber barons" of the earlier
part of this century: it was very, very bad for the majority of the
people, but the few elite lived better than any king has ever lived.

In case that doesn't seem to apply to this thread: what I am saying
is that this democratic government has put anti-trust laws into place
to protect the people from ever being at the mercy of the robber barons
again. AMD will survive, and so will many other competitors of Intel,
because Intel will not ever be allowed to capture the entire market.

I believe that the part of the market that Intel does not now hold
captive is a profitable part of the market and AMD is certainly going
to do its damndest to get its fair share of that profit.

Some people realize that both companies are good long-term investments
and hold both stocks. Personally, I think that when the market takes
its dump, there are far better and safer investments than any tech stocks
including Intel and MSFT. For the long, long term, however, these high
tech companies are going to outperform the broader market.
