Adam, thanks for sharing that. The previously announced "attrition" plan at Intel is now underway, with the goal of reducing headcount by 5000.
Couple/3 comments:
1. The 5,000 reduction was announced a while ago, and I recall that Intel thought "normal" attrition could take care of most of it. 5,000 attrits in, say 8 months or so, is not out of the question for a company with about 75,000 people. So, now, it sounds like nobody was leaving on their own. With the high tech job market decimated in the US, I can understand that. Obviously, Intel is taking matters into their own hands.
2. Didn't any people leave on their own, to be counted against the 5,000 heads, and therefore not get the severance?
3. I believe these charges are declared one-time, aren't they? Someone ought to know that with all the other companies doing it. Cisco yesterday was an example, and their's, I think, would have been bigger. I don't think they took it to the bottom line. Here come the "creative accounting charges.
