UMC (2303 TT) reported April sales of NT$5.81bn, down 11.7% from March and 21.1% yoy. UMC's April decline was less than the firm’s internal forecast of nearly 30%, and also better than market expectation of around 20%. TSMC’s (2330 TT) April sales were NT$9.2bn, down 21.4% from the previous month but up 4% year-on-year, in line with market expectations. Despite poor April sales, we recommend to BUY UMC and TSMC long-term given that the semiconductor industry is likely to bottom out in the second half.
