Infolatina via NewsEdge Corporation : MEXICO CITY, May 9, 2001 (Reforma/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- Grupo Iusacell, Mexico's second-largest mobile phone carrier, late last week resigned its membership of the country's telecommunications, electronics and information technology industries chamber, Canieti, according to a report in Mexico City daily Reforma. Iusacell, in which Vodafone Group owns 34.5 percent and Verizon Communications 39 percent, said the association was not representative of telecommunications industry interests, Reforma business columnist Dario Celis Estrada reported. Iusacell joins four other major companies that have abandoned Canieti in the past several months: Mexican dominant carrier Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex); Telcel, the Mexican subsidiary of Telmex mobile spin-off America Movil; mobile carrier Unefon; and fixed wireless carrier Axtel.
