10:06 ET Nasdaq Composite : -- Technical -- Bolts higher out of the starting gate but failed to live up to pre-market billing as it proved unable to breach resistance at 2200. Has weakened slightly in recent dealings but has a sizeable intraday buffer before any chart damage of significance is seen (support 2175/2170 with critical floor at 2160). These barriers hold and the index will remain positioned for another run. Next resistance is at 2210/2215 in front of the recovery high at 2232.




09:58 ET Capstone Turbine (CPST) 31.52 +1.47 (+4.8%): -- Technical -- Solid push higher in opening dealings but it is still struggling to work past the trendline off the March/April highs that has contained rally attempts this month. Sustained action above (at 31.40 today) leaves CPST positioned to challenge resistance at 32.22 along with the April high at 33.35. May high does not come into play until 35.06.




09:58 ET Semi False Start : CSFB does not agree with Salomon Smith Barney's call on semiconductor equipment stocks; does not believe that Capex levels support a turn in the business, citing data from both Asia and the US. CSFB says it would be a seller of the group into strength.




09:51 ET Service Corp (SRV) 5.21 +0.55 (+11.8%): Latest quarterly results suggest that company is back from the dead; after the close, the world's largest funeral and cemetery company reported Q1 earnings of $0.08 a share, well above the $0.01 consensus (2 analysts surveyed). Company did note that funeral segment revenues disappointed due to a decrease in the number of deaths in its global funeral service markets. During the qtr company reduced its crushing debt load by $259 mln to $3.03 bln.
