I would suggest that the software writers learn to use hand tools if money is more important to them than writing code. Artists have had to make this decision since time began unless they could find a private benefactor to take care of them.

BTW, there is a huge difference between "software writers" and "software engineers" that is often lost in the discussion. Engineers innovate and will, as such, probably have no problems finding work for high pay. They might supervise a team in China or India that does the actual code writing...

Maybe the answer is they should start to study Chinese and Indian languages?
