In my estate work I have found that most people with modest estates never need any of their investment capital if they live modestly. And by modestly I don't mean poorly. This is based on looking at estates of from 200,000 to 400,000, including a residence. This is an estate size almost all tradesmen and small businessmen should be able to achieve. The key seems to be having housing fully paid for and some pension in addition to social security.
