Some of the more memorable CNBC-UK times have been (just off the top of my head)
- just before CNBC-US interviewed the CEO of Nokia, CNBC-UK cuts in with some nonsense program (at that time Nokia had the second highest mark cap in europe,CNBC-UK serves europe)
- the propaganda campaign "Wap is Crap" (later added "as everyone knows") without once going into any details why Wap actually is Crap in the UK networks. (before that they run "Wap Wednesday")
- the general manipulation of making questions which actually are statements, and cutting off the answers, reaching its heights when the CEO of France Telecom just continued answering, until cut off with "the satellite link was lost"..
and today they of course had no satellite connection at all when Duesenberg spoke of the rate cut...
Instead the standard euro-basher, topped off with witty jokes on england and IRA.. (strange associations)
Not to forget the daily jokes on how early whats-her-name has to get up in Texas (6 hour time diff), etc,etc..
etc,etc,etc..

P.S. The really childish thing, glorifying the interviewer, is of course to cut off the one answering, speaking exactly when they anyway are about to say the last word.. cheap trick... (but in general "some" english are probably the least suitable to run something like CNBC for europe, easily turns into mostly french-bashing, german-bashing, ireland-bashing, italy-bashing,etc. as well as US-bashing...) |
