(stock: FFIV) has launched a new version of its load-balancing system that can improve Internet page-load performance and reduce the need for bandwidth by cutting down on the number of connections required for each page. The new BIG-IP Controller 4.0 load balancer offers a feature called OneConnect Content Switching that eliminates the need for Internet clients to open up a separate TCP connection for each of the objects—such as GIF files and other graphics—that make up a Web page. The new capability speeds page performance and can reduce bandwidth requirements by up to 20 percent, according to F5 officials.
