A couple of Barron's items brought you to mind as I was reading them. I don't know if you can comment or not.
The piece on the inventor of the money market mutual fund and his comments on safety being important, were interesting. He refuses commercial paper of any kind. For people who were part of the discussion a while back about making sure you are in a money fund which is free of toxic waste, his fund ("The Primary Fund") seems like a good choice.
Also, Bernie Madoff is being called into question for running a hedge fund with what seemed to be one of your favorite strategies, buy the stock, sell a call, buy a put. He returned between 11 and 18% every year during the 1990s, with only 4 down months. He is secretive about his strategies, a la LTCM, and it is being questioned whether he is really generating such returns. Many people were quoted saying that this type of strategy has been tried by many, but his returns have not been duplicated.
